Oklahoma City is packed with incredible museums, but the Oklahoma Science Museum is my favorite to visit! The museum has lots of hands-on, interactive exhibits for kids, and is a great way to have an educational experience with them! Whether you’re planning a family outing or just looking for a fun day of exploration, this museum is an absolute must-visit!
Oklahoma Science Museum – 6 Kid Friendly Exhibits for a Fun Family Day
The Oklahoma Science Museum is in the heart of Oklahoma City’s Adventure District. One of the things I love most about the science museum is that is located right next to the Oklahoma City Zoo, so I have been able to visit both locations in the same day with my kiddos! Here are 6 must see exhibits while visiting the Oklahoma Science Museum:
1. Tinkering Garage at the OKC Science Museum
The Tinkering Garage is where engineering, art, and technology come together in the coolest ways. The tinkering garage is a fun area where you can design, invent, build, and experiment—hands-on and perfect for all ages. The activities switch up every month, so there’s always something new to try!
2. CurioCity
CurioCity (pronounced like “curiosity”) invites kids to dive into science through eight playful and imaginative neighborhoods. There are a lot of interactive activities, so learning becomes an adventure! The indoor playground is huge, with a very whimsical and fairytale-like theme. There are also playing instruments, balancing on a tightrope, a carousel, and an excavation play area where your little ones can dig for dinosaur bones!
3. KidSpace
Kid Space shows that science is for everyone—even the littlest explorers! Kids can splash around at the water table, explore the fire station, hop on a tractor for some pretend farming, and enjoy so many other fun activities. One of the best features of this area is the nursing room, thoughtfully included for moms with little ones to relax and feel comfortable.
4. The Gardens
The Gardens at Science Museum Oklahoma are full of beautiful native and Oklahoma-friendly plants. There is a hobby greenhouse and excavators for kids to dig and play in the dirt! Plus, they host fun, garden-inspired events all year long, like the super-popular “What’s Growing On” program.
5. Gymanstics
One of my favorite spots at the science museum has to be the gymnastics area (though, I might be a little biased as a former gymnast!). They’ve got a balance beam, mushroom pommel, rings, and mats for tumbling—everything your kids need to burn off energy and have a blast. There’s even a display showcasing Hall of Fame gymnasts for some extra inspiration. It’s the perfect place for your little ones to get active, dream big, and have tons of fun!
6. Science Live
Science Live is all about interactive experiments, cool demos, and fun, engaging talks that are perfect for everyone. They have special Science Live! shows throughout the day, including a new energy-themed show and fan favorites with fire-throwing and big scientific explosions.
