Summer in Oklahoma City can get pretty warm, but luckily OKC splash pads are a fun way to stay cool and enjoy some time outside. There are plenty around town, so I’ve put together a list of four favorites that are great for families. Here’s a little about each one.
If you’re like me and don’t have a pool in your backyard or access to a nearby lake, then splash pads are the perfect place for you to hang out this summer with your little ones. I’m excited to share 4 splash pads in town perfect for a fun day out where you can cool off with your kiddos.
Little River Park Splash Pad is truly one of the best splash pads I’ve visited in the OKC area, and what makes it stand out is that it’s the only splash pad I’ve personally seen that features free water slides! The two slides are definitely the highlight, providing endless fun for kids. The splash pad area is gated for safety, so parents can relax while their little ones splash around freely. Plus, there are plenty of shaded picnic tables where families can sit comfortably and watch the kids play.
Beyond the splash pad, the park has so much to offer. There’s a fantastic pirate-themed playground with lots of climbing options to keep kids entertained for hours. Multiple pavilions are available, perfect for gatherings or birthday parties, and they’re equipped with trash cans to make cleanup a breeze, even for pizza boxes! The park also features two small ponds with a scenic loop walking trail around them, as well as a workout area for those wanting to squeeze in some exercise. With restrooms on site, Little River Park is a convenient, family-friendly destination for a full day of outdoor fun.
Scissortail Park is one of the most popular parks in OKC, and for a good reason. Located in the heart of downtown OKC, the Scissortail Park Sprayground is a state-of-the-art water park that’s sure to delight visitors of all ages. The park features a wide range of amenities, including a children’s playground with water fountains. The fountains are conveniently located near the playground. Your little ones can enjoy running through them while you relax on nearby bench.
What sets the Scissortail Park Sprayground apart from other OKC splash pads is its unique design and layout. If your kiddo would love running through a maze of spraying arches, then Scissortail Park Sprayground would be the perfect place for a fun day with your little one!
The Oklahoma City Zoo is home to a variety of animals, but it also features a fantastic water stream that runs through the park. The water stream is located on the east side of the zoo near the children’s petting zoo area and is perfect for children of all ages. The water stream is a unique feature that allows kids to wade and splash around in a shallow, flowing stream of water. Your little ones will have so much fun as they pretend to play in a flowing river.
Barnett Field Splash Pad is located near OKC, in Edmond, and is a favorite among families. The splash pad offers a variety of water features, including a large bucket that dumps water every few minutes. There are also several water sprayers and fountains that children can run through and enjoy. One of the best things about the Barnett Field Splash Pad is that it’s open every day from 9 am to 8 pm throughout the summer months. So whether you’re looking for a way to cool off in the morning, afternoon, or evening, this splash pad has you covered.
For a fun way to let kids run around and cool off, Thunder Fountain in downtown OKC is a popular spot. Water shoots up from the ground in little bursts, and children love chasing it and getting soaked. It’s lively, noisy, and full of energy for a fun summer day!
If your little ones prefer a calmer atmosphere, the Seasonal Plaza Water Feature, just a short walk away, is perfect for little ones or kids who like a gentler splash. It’s usually more peaceful there, especially early in the day, making it a great spot for a calm, easy-going playtime. While pets are welcome throughout the gardens, the water play zones are meant only for children.
Whether you’re a kid or just young at heart, an OKC splash pad is a fun way to cool off this summer. Kids love running through the fountains, and it’s a great chance to make lasting memories.
